Blogging from the iPhone

This my first entry using iBlogger. Not too bad.

My Webhosting Service Killed Some Spammers

Major Source of Online Scams and Spams Knocked Offline – Security Fix:

“Two hours later, I heard from Benny Ng, director of marketing for Hurricane Electric, the Fremont, Calif., company that was the other major Internet provider for McColo.
Hurricane Electric took a much stronger public stance: ‘We shut them down,’ Ng said.”

Hurricane Electric is a great service provider. Plenty of power. No frills. The dark side I guess is this is a spammer’s dream.

What an Obama Presidency Means for Technology — RoughlyDrafted Magazine

What an Obama Presidency Means for Technology — RoughlyDrafted Magazine:

“Rather than answering to big contributors, Obama now faces a different constituency: the people of the United States. The new president will now face an expectation for the same level of support that individuals have come to expect from companies on the web.”

One of the sea changes this election made in my view is that Obama showed that technology can be a real democratizer. Accelerating this process will make government more transparent and directly accountable to the people.

Why Apple Will Always Be a Hardware Company

Apple earnings, profits, and cash embarrass Microsoft — RoughlyDrafted Magazine:

“While Microsoft executives like to talk about Apple as an insignificant company with less than 5% of the worldwide market share of all PCs and servers sold, the company now has more cash than Microsoft and earns more than half of its profits and over three fourths Microsoft’s revenues.”

MacDailyNews – Apple surpasses goal of 10 million iPhones sold in 2008; outsells RIM in September quarter

MacDailyNews – Apple surpasses goal of 10 million iPhones sold in 2008; outsells RIM in September quarter:

“‘I can’t believe the hype being given to iPhone… I just have to wonder who will want one of these things (other than the religious faithful)… So please mark this post and come back in two years to see the results of my prediction: I predict they will not sell anywhere near the 10M Jobs predicts for 2008.’ – Richard Sprague, Microsoft Senior Marketing Director, January 18, 2007”

Absolute comedy.

FactCheck.org: Energetically Wrong

FactCheck.org: Energetically Wrong:

“Palin claims Alaska ‘produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy.’ That’s not true.
Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that’s a far cry from all the ‘energy’ produced in the U.S.
Alaska’s share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
And if by ‘supply’ Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska’s production accounted for only 2.4 percent.”

I sure hope Obama gets his a$$ in gear and stops letting these people get away with public bald faced lies. The media is impotent in the face of it.

Almerica Blog: Podcaster rejeceted because it duplicates iTunes functionality

Almerica Blog: Podcaster rejeceted because it duplicates iTunes functionality:

“That’s right folks, it duplicates the functionality of the desktop version of iTunes.
Therefore, it was denied from sale in the app store. “

Apple better wake up before it sees a repeat of the 90’s. Idiot move. Big time.

A Product Transition: Giving MacBooks the iPhone Touch — RoughlyDrafted Magazine

A Product Transition: Giving MacBooks the iPhone Touch — RoughlyDrafted Magazine:

“That gives Apple the opportunity to blow away users with a feature that would clearly differentiate its mobile line for years, more closely associate its Macs with the iPhone brand, and jump from today’s 8 to 10% of the US market to a figure closer to 30% within just a year. We already know Apple has 66% of the consumer-oriented retail market for machines above $1000 in the US; why not take the rest?”

The idea is crazy enough to be true.

Apple Just Makes Better PC’s Period

Mac vs PC – Benchmark and Speed Tests – PC versus Mac – Apple, Windows Reviews – Popular Mechanics:

“The Verdict: Apple
Mac: In both the laptop and desktop showdowns, Apple’s computers were the winners. Oddly, the big difference didn’t come in our user ratings, where we expected the famously friendly Mac interface to shine. Our respondents liked the look and feel of both operating systems but had a slight preference toward OS X. In our speed trials, however, Leopard OS trounced Vista in all-important tasks such as boot-up, shutdown and program-launch times. We even tested Vista on the Macs using Apple’s platform-switching Boot Camp software—and found that both Apple computers ran Vista faster than our PCs did. “

Using Back to My Mac… to Catch a Thief! — RoughlyDrafted Magazine

Using Back to My Mac… to Catch a Thief! — RoughlyDrafted Magazine:

“After a burglar broke into her truck and stole her iPhone and MacBook, a woman in Santa Cruz teamed up with a friend to use Mac OS X Leopard’s ‘Back to My Mac’ screen sharing feature to track and identify the thief for the police.”

Amazing.
